Operating Partner & Chief Marketing Officer
Jay Sung joined Brentwood Associates in 2017. Presently, he serves as a Director of Beyond Proper by Boston Proper and is currently active in the corporate development efforts of Jefferson Dental, J.McLaughlin and SAXX Underwear. Jay was also active in the corporate development efforts and sale of Sundance Holding Company. A veteran executive with 25 years of experience in consumer products and services, he has extensive expertise in direct marketing, e-commerce, and multi-channel customer acquisition and retention, having managed marketing budgets between $5M and $350M.
Most recently, he served as President, North America for The Proactiv Company, a recent carve out of Guthy-Renker and majority-owned by Nestle Skin Health, a pharmaceutical division of the Nestle Company. Previously, he served as Chief Marketing Officer at Guthy-Renker, a $1.3B industry leader in the direct-to-consumer health and beauty market, best known for developing and marketing leading brands including Proactiv®, Meaningful Beauty® with Cindy Crawford, Wen® Haircare by Chaz Dean, IT Cosmetics™, and many others. In addition to his strong track record of growth with skincare and beauty brands, Sung has held President and Chief Marketing Officer positions in a variety of industries including financial services, insurance, online advertising, subscriptions and wine. Jay holds a B.S. in Economics, with a dual concentration in Marketing and Accounting, from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Members of the Operations Group are non-investment professionals or independent contractors employed or retained to provide operational diligence services for prospective and consummated investments and post-closing operational initiatives for portfolio companies. Operations Group members are either employees of BPE Growth & Operations, LLC, an affiliate of Brentwood Private Equity, LLC, or independent contractors.
